This issue marks the beginning of our fourth year and we’re celebrating with a mega announcement. Fairfield County Home has grown up. Next year we’re getting married. In fall of 2008 we launch Fairfield County Bride, a twice-a-year look at the ultimate in weddings right here in our own home marketplace.
According to industry sources there are about 2.3 million weddings every year in the U.S. and approximately 16,500 of those will take place in Connecticut. Weddings are a $72 billion marketplace in this country. It’s big, big business-make no mistake. With the average wedding topping $20,000 (and in Fairfield County a $100,000 wedding is not out of the norm), there is enormous opportunity for photographers, videographers, jewelers, gown manufacturers and retailers, bridal registries, florists, reception sites, caterers, and yes, those of you in the home design business. Nowadays, couples are registering for all kinds of things that they really want, like furniture, linens, accessories, kitchen appliances, lighting, interior design help and even a down payment on a mortgage. With the average age of a couple nearing 30, chances are they’re moving into a new home or looking for one in the near future, if not living together already. This means an increased interest in, and emphasis on, home-related products. Also, the traditional honeymoon has gone through some changes. Destination weddings are increasingly popular and that means healthy sales at the cash register for travel, resort wear, beauty and a host of other related items.
Fairfield County Bride will be different in subject but will complement Fairfield County Home’s unique sense of style and elegance. We’ll show you the very best ideas and resources in Fairfield County and help plan every step of the way. We’ll inspire, amaze and delight the most demanding of brides in the most affluent of neighborhoods.
The timing could not be better on many levels. Our two co-founders, Matt and Shelley, are tying the knot themselves next year, so they will be our perfect test market. We aim to produce a magazine that is both beautiful and useful with luxury at its core. So expect the unexpected and prepare to be dazzled. You’ll see nothing else like it.
Join us as we take the plunge.
